Deputy President William Ruto is expected to splash millions once again in an event which retraces his roots as a chicken seller.
On Thursday, December 19, Ruto will be the guest at a chicken auction in Kambi Kuku, Turbo Constituency in Uasin Gishu County.
In April 2018, he graced what was arguably the biggest poultry auction in the county, where 5,000 chicken were sold at Ksh1,200, raising over Ksh 6 million.
"This is the second anniversary as it was launched last year.
"Issues that were raised by farmers last year were attended too and on Thursday they will launch projects aligned to the auction," a source close to the DP affirmed while speaking to Kenyans.co.ke.
Before launching his political career, a young Ruto hustled at the busy Eldoret- Malaba Highway where he sold chicken to motorists plying the route.
“We encourage small scale business people, including poultry farmers to tap into modern rearing methods such as quality feeds, construction of permanent brooder pens, improved storage facilities and value addition.
"They should pool resources and join cooperative societies that will provide extension services, enable them access credit to produce on a large scale and help the country achieve food security," Ruto stated at the 2018 chicken auction event.
The DP embraced his poultry idea even after he became a successful politician.
He boasts a farm with thousands of chicken from which he obtains both eggs and meat. His wife, Rachel Ruto, disclosed that as of 2015, the couple had pumped over Ksh15 million into their investment.
