Machakos Residents Demonstrate Against Ruto

Machakos residents reportedly staged demonstrations against Deputy President William Ruto over threats he allegedly issued to Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua.

On Monday, December 16, Mutua recorded a statement at Kilimani Police Station, where he reported the DP and his allies, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and Garissa Town MP Aden Duale, for threatening him at State House

On Tuesday, December 17, Machakos and Kitui residents protested in support of Mutua.

"Kitui Town roads were closed after motorists and over 400 youth indulged in peaceful demonstrations after death threats to Alfred Mutua," one Eric Ndemange tweeted.

Mutua, while speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on phone, stated that he was overwhelmed by the support.

"Yes, I heard that there were demonstrations in Makueni, Machakos, Kitui, Nyamira, Nyeri, Nakuru, Kisumu counties. I am touched and very grateful that Kenyans all over this country have not only supported me verbally but have also come out and demonstrated.

"Others even spoke openly that this is a new Kenya and that people have a right to dream, and that they should not be threatened or their dreams attacked. This has motivated me to do the right thing for Kenyans," Mutua affirmed.

While at Kilimani Police Station, Mutua claimed that he received threats on two different dates; November 25 and another in December.

He added that the leaders accused him of constantly attacking Deputy President William Ruto and his allies, a claim he vehemently refuted.

Murkomen and Duale hit back arguing that Mutua was dramatic and his claims were unsubstantiated.

"Mutua is writing another episode of his Cobra Squad series. Having failed spectacularly as a leader he turned himself into a Joseph Goebbels of his county government.

"He is of no consequence to anyone to deserve any attention let alone threats. Let us just watch the cinematic vipindiree (programmes)," Murkomen tweeted.
