Driver Flees After Knocking Down Siblings in Deadly Accident

Two minors lost their lives when while attempting to cross the busy Naivasha-Mai Mahiu Highway.

The two were allegedly knocked down near Kihoto Estate, in Naivasha on Tuesday, December 17, 2019.

A report by The Standard revealed that the minors were sisters of age seven and four.

The two siblings had strayed away from a group of people preparing to cross the road.

A witness at the scene, identified as Geoffrey Kibe, defended the driver, claiming that it was too late for him to do avoid hitting the children.

"The accident occurred so fast and there was little that the driver could do. As a result, the two girls lost their lives," the witness was quoted.

The driver of the vehicle rushed the minors to Naivasha Sub-county Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, while at the facility, the two were declared dead on arrival.

Upon the realisation, the motorist is said to have abandoned the bodies at the hospital and fled.

Naivasha Police Boss Samuel Waweru told the media that officers are pursuing the driver and that the vehicle in question had already been seized and towed to Naivasha Police Station.

"We are detaining the car that was involved in the accident, where two girls lost their lives while crossing the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu Road," Waweru explained.

According to a witness , the Niavasha - Mai Mahiu route is in a deplorable state, making the area a black spot for road accidents. Residents have complained about delapidated bumps , lack of footbridges and very few zebra-crossing spots.

In a recent report by the Standard newspaper dated in September, a 14 seater matatu that was travelling towards Nakuru collided with a tour van headed in the opposite direction left two people dead and the injured were rushed to Naivasha Sub County Refferal Hospital for treatment.
