Itumbi Picks Fresh Fight With DCI

Digital strategist Dennis Itumbi purported that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is being used as a new tool to impeach governors deemed unfavourable by government insiders.

Taking to Twitter on Friday, December 20, he cast aspersions on the call for governors to be locked out of office when facing corruption charges.

"There is a new way to remove a governor from office, it is not in the constitution. It is Karura, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, their quality, strength or depth notwithstanding. So far, the selective prosecutions have only pinned allegations on governors believed to support tanga tanga," he wrote.

His complaints come barely an hour after the Court of Appeal upheld Justice Mumbi Ngugi's ruling that governors charged with corruption should be barred from office.

This, Itumbi stated, was being used to ensure governors allied to DP William Ruto were completely blocked from power and intimidated to drop their stance on the deputy president.

"They (DCI) just needs to say you are under their radar, have you charged as they investigate and you are no longer a governor! You cannot access your office, it is a scene of a crime, not the type that no-one can access, just the type you cannot access," he wrote.

He also alleged that the DCI had been applying double standards in its prosecutions, turning a blind eye to governors from the other side of Kenya's political divide.

"One ODM governor told a public rally nothing can happen to him. He is insulated. After the decision by Court of Appeal today, my unsolicited advice is to keep off public statements supporting tanga tanga. Meanwhile, this matter should move to the Supreme Court!" Itumbi concluded.

So far, governors who have been barred from accessing their offices due to the graft charges facing them include Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, Kiambu's Ferdinand Waititu and Samburu's Moses Lenolkulal.

Governor Waititu was impeached by Kiambu MCAs on Thursday, December 19, 2019
