Man Dies After Second Suicide Attempt In Hospital Toilet

A middle-aged man identified as Lameck Muhia left Murang'a residents in shock after his second attempt at committing suicide within two days was successful on Sunday, December 29.

According to a report published by K24, Lameck was reported to have been admitted at the Muranga County Referral Hospital where he had been rushed to from his home in Kangema Sub County, Muguru area on Friday, December 27, after he consumed poison.

The hospital's medical superintendent, Leonard Gikera, informed journalists that Muhia and had been recovering from the effects of the poison he had consumed before he once again tried to take his life, this time around succeeding.

''For now, we cannot be able to establish what pushed the patient to take his life. It's like he was determined to kill himself since he had tried to take poison, an attempt that flopped.''

Gikera narrated how the man was found dangling from the showerhead of a washroom in the hospital by other patients who reported that they found him to be quite depressed.

He is reported to have left his bed at around 5 a.m. in the morning and then sneaked into the ward bathrooms and hanged himself using his bedsheets.

''Cases of suicide of people aged below 40 years are on the rise and we advice young people to seek help and advice from members of clergy, community leaders and psychologists instead of deciding to take one's life,'' Murang’a County Police Commander Josephat Kinyua is quoted by the Daily Nation.

The publication further stated that the police boss said that they were trying to reach the family of the deceased as they proceed with an investigation into what pushed the man, whose body was transferred to the hospital's mortuary, to take his life.
