EXCLUSIVE: Switch TV Announces Major Changes; Presenters Axed

Youth-focused broadcaster Switch TV is set to make major staffing changes in line with its growth strategy.

Speaking exclusively to Kenyans.co.ke on Monday, January 6, 2019, SwitchTV communications explained in detail, the overall vision of the media house and the changes in the offing.

It appears the first casualties of the impending changes are Chatspot hosts Nonny Gathoni and Jackie Matubia who were let go in early January.

"In order to remain competitive in the broadcasting space, it is imperative to continuously refresh programs to strengthen our offering in the market," read part of email communication sent to our newsroom from the broadcaster.

Switch Media further revealed that the station was embarking on a new direction under the Switch TV 2020 strategy necessitating changes.

"We will be reviewing the existing programming; cancelling and launching new shows; which may affect some of the existing talent," the email read.

The station is also in the process of bringing in some fresh blood, but when quizzed on the specific individuals, Switch TV communications declined to give the details, maintaining that all would be revealed in due time.

Switch TV 2020 strategy is set to include the introduction of new personalities on air with new shows scheduled to launch later during the year.

The station's market share was up to 4.5% in November 2019 according to the Geopoll audience measurement data.

In a similar instance, back on October 30, 2019, Kameme TV was the most affected by the mass firing at Mediamax Networks, with most of its employees losing their jobs.

Kenyans.co.ke learned that all the video editors, show presenters and a number of producers have been laid off in measures to 'reduce redundancy' in the company.

A source revealed that 24 journalists had been fired from the station, leaving a lean staff of six people.
