Why Uhuru Chose MP Over Ruto to Deliver Cash

After Kieni Member of Parliament Kanini Kega delivered cash from President Uhuru Kenyatta during Mathira MP’s mother’s burial on Tuesday, January 7, questions lingered on why the cash was delivered by the MP rather than the Deputy President William Ruto who was also in attendance.

During an interview on Kameme TV on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, the MP explained the circumstances that led to him being handed the cash by the president himself after they had a meeting.

“On Friday, I happened to be in Mombasa and because I knew the president was there too, I decided to pay him a visit at State House, Mombasa.”

“During my time with the president, I informed him that I was going for the burial of Rigathi Gachagua’s mother. As a friend of the Gachagua family for long, the president handed me Ksh 500,000 to give to the family,” indicated Gachagua.

According to the parliamentarian, he was surprised when politicians at the event started speaking ill of the action, ostensibly accusing him of undermining the deputy president.

“I don’t understand why there was a problem and people started speaking about it. I was more shocked that even the deputy president was part of the talk.

“The president can send anyone. He has friends all over, I am not supposed to be asked any questions. Let them direct their questions to the president himself,” remarked Kanini.

The MP also accused the parliamentarians allied to the deputy president of engaging in a plot to portray President Kenyatta in a bad light.

“It is sad that those who are attacking the president are people from his Mt. Kenya region.

“What worried me most is when the deputy president said that all roads that have been built were done after consultations between him and the MPs leaving out the president’s efforts,” stated Kanini.

The Kieni parliamentarian further downplayed claims that President Kenyatta was an underperforming head of state, accusing a section of leaders of skewing information for political gains.

“There seems to be a government working under DP Ruto and another one that is failing under President Kenyatta.

“We have one government led by Uhuru Kenyatta and people must not blame him alone for any misfortunes that may emerge,” indicated Kanini.

The burial ceremony was attended by a high number of parliamentarians, most of whom are affiliated to the deputy president.
