Former The Standard newspaper Emmanuel Talam criticised his former employer over a story about Deputy President William Ruto on the newspaper of January 9, 2020.
Talam, the current director of communication in Deputy President William Ruto's office, dismissed the article while questioning the paper's quality standards.
"During my days as a reporter, I was never allowed to quote Murathe (former Jubilee vice chair) as my source of a news story. My editor was strict about the credibility of sources," Ruto's aide wrote on his social media.
The newspaper had published a story about Murathe daring DP Ruto to oust President Uhuru Kenyatta from power.
"David Murathe escalates the feud in Jubilee by challenging Deputy President William Ruto to topple his boss as party leader if he wants to stop the president from becoming prime minister," the publication wrote.
"Like or hate him, Murathe is the most credible source around Uhuru now. Anything he says comes to the media house. Which media house didn’t allow sources in its stories? It needs to be shamed," James Anyona posed.
"What about the stadia that your immediate boss promised...including Kamariny in West Pokot which is historic?" Invictus wondered.
"Those days, Uhuru was not the president and therefore couldn't say anything he wanted without using Murathe. Change is inevitable. Things have changed," another social media user commented.
"At least you have a credible boss who promised 10,000km or roads, free secondary education and nine stadia and delivered. We are proud of your boss from Kamagut to Kariandusi," a sarcastic social media user weighed in.
Talam, who served as the deputy managing editor at Kenya Television Network (KTN), joined DP Ruto's team in 2013.
