Self-styled National Resistance Movement (NRM) leader Miguna Miguna on Saturday, January 11, attended a high-profile event in Germany.
Miguna was present at the 120th Presseball Berlin, a night celebration held under the auspices of the European Parliament at the Maritim Hotel Berlin.
The historic event first took place in 1872 and showcases the best of Europe in terms of food, music, culture and governance in addition to honoring prominent figures for their contributions to the continent's growth and unity.
Miguna, who failed in two attempts to board flights to Nairobi on Tuesday, January 7, shared photos of himself looking dapper at the event.
"At the Presse Ball Berlin on January 11, 2020, as the "small man" continues to wait for despots to obey court orders and for justice to be done and to be seen to be done," Miguna captioned the images.
A Nairobi court had on Friday, January 10 summoned Attorney General Paul Kihara Kariuki or a senior officer from his office to appear before the court on Monday, January 13, to explain the state's disregard of orders relating to Miguna.
Miguna's lawyer John Khaminwa decried disobedience of court orders by the government after Lufthansa and Air France cited requests from Kenyan authorities as the reason for denying Miguna permission to board the flights.
"My emphasis was on the disobedience of over 18 court orders on Miguna Miguna. It's unacceptable, the Attorney General or a senior official needs to explain, they cannot keep sending junior officers,
"What are we to do? We are lawyers, we have court orders, we don't have guns or an army," Khaminwa lamented to Kenyans.co.ke.
At the Presseball Berlin, guests made merry through the night and sampled dishes from across the continent.
The 2020 edition of the event was themed around iconic classical music composer Beethoven.
"Thematically, the jubilee year 2020 will be celebrated by Beethoven. It not only honors one of the greatest composers in the world, but also the European idea of a peaceful and unified continent – an idea with a radiant power far beyond Europe," a release from the event organizers read in part.
Helmut Josef Michael Kohl, a former Chancellor of Germany, was honored posthumously for his services to Europe. Kohl served as Chancellor of Germany from 1982 to 1998 and was also the chairman of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) from 1973 to 1998.
His son Walter Khol, a financial analyst, businessman and author, picked up the award at the glamorous event.
