Yvonne Okwara's Bold Stance Excites Miguna [VIDEO]

Citizen TV news anchor Yvonne Okwara on Thursday evening, January 16, strongly defended controversial lawyer Miguna Miguna after his botched attempts to return to Kenya.

In her take on Newsgang, Yvonne argued that it was not right for the government to deny the lawyer access to his own country despite numerous court orders.

"The court order is very simple, it requires the authorities to facilitate Miguna's entry using his passport in the state where they seized it," Yvonne begun.

She added that the court order did not require him to go to any embassy in order to get his travel documents.

"Why should he make a fresh application at the embassy when he already has one. A passport that was taken by the very state that is asking him to go get another one?" she posed.

"Miguna is not a particularly likeable man, he is too abrasive, shouldn't tweet his every move and all that jazz but no one needs to be told that they shouldn't make cases on who they like and who they do not, because the human rights declaration was not made in favour of who is liked by the drafters," she added.

In response to Yvonne's sentiments, Miguna expressed his gratitude and explained why he documented his every move on social media.

"Thank you Yvonne for your take. In view of how my house was destroyed, I was abducted, detained, tortured and forcefully removed from Kenya. If I travelled without informing the public, the despots can simply get rid of me at arrival and deny that I ever travelled," the lawyer stated.

Miguna, who was initially scheduled to touch down at JKIA Airport on Tuesday, January 7, suffered two setbacks after he was barred from flying to Kenya by two European airlines.

On his part, Government Spokesman Cyrus Oguna explained that Miguna's woes were stemming from his 'unruly' travelling behaviour and admitted that the Kenyan government did issue a red alert that led to the lawyer getting ejected from the plane.
