Kenyan Who Teamed Up With US Billionaire for Special Project

It is a rare chance to meet some of the renowned world celebrities or to even grasp the opportunity to partner with them in their multi-billion projects.

However, for Osborne Macharia, 33, life has been a journey of adventure as he continues to embed his name within the greatest artworks that exist.

The Canada-based Kenyan photographer and digital artist has a unique ability to tell his stories through a genre known as Afrofuturism, which highlights three key principles being identity, culture and fiction.

In 2018, he partnered with the Oprah Winfrey Network to shoot key artwork for Queen Sugar, an American drama TV series. The show was produced by American business mogul Oprah Winfrey

"I am a photographer and digital artist. My interest in photography came with a bang. I have been so fortunate and so blessed to work with cool brands.

"Afrofuturism is a post-colonial narrative about the continent where you embrace history and future expression of people of colour through art, music and fashion and paint a different narrative about the world," Macharia narrated in an interview with CNN in 2018.

The artist is self-taught, after learning his trade through online tutorials and research. In 2010 while in his fourth year undertaking a Bachelors in Architecture in Kenya, Macharia switched to photography and his decision paid off.

"My target was to be a good digital photographer, I have been using the same team for almost four years, from stylists to props. When you come together you can create a unique piece of art," Macharia stated.

In 2018, he also promoted the film Black Panther, which starred his compatriot Lupita Nyongo

"He is one of the best freelancers and one of the best photographers in the world. His style is different as he can modernize a shoot and produce it in African design, unlike other photographers," Tim Gichuru, a graphics expert and a close friend to Macharia informed Kenyans.co.ke

The artist's artwork has been featured by many brands including Vogue and CNN. His work has also been exhibited globally as he went on to make keynote speeches at international conferences.

Among the awards he has bagged are the Kenya Cannes Lion Award (2015) and has been a finalist in the One Show (2016) and Hasselbald Masters (2016).
