Mother Sends Daughter to Police Station, Ends Up Dead

A family in Kilifi County has been thrust into mourning after the mysterious death of their pregnant daughter inside Bamba Police Station.

According to a report by Daily Nation, the mother of Shukran Masha had sent her to the police station on Tuesday, February 4, to seek advice regarding joining Form One while she was seven months pregnant.

The girl was looking to obtain a letter allowing her to move in with the father of her child until she delivered. Her parents were concerned that their daughter and her lover would be netted in the ongoing 100% transition to high school policy overseen by Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha.

“My wife wanted the police to give her a note to allow her to stay home until she gives birth. But at around midnight, I was called by my other daughter telling me that my last born had committed suicide.

"I was shaken, I still don’t understand why or what happened. I am yet to see her body,” stated the girl's father Masha Kazungu.

He refused to accept a police report that indicated his daughter had hanged herself using a Hijab and believed that autopsy on her body would reveal the truth.

“I bought her shopping. I wanted her to complete her education. I didn’t reprimand her for the pregnancy. I don’t know what to say. There’s a lot of speculation surrounding her death in police cells.

"I want closure. Her mother is just crying, I don’t know how to console her; it has hit us hard,” he continued.

A resident, Philister Sauti, from the region collaborated his story explaining that the girl came up with the idea of obtaining a letter that allowed her to stay out of school until she delivered.

"The girl told her mother they should get a note from the police to ensure they are not arrested during the 100% transition crackdown. But instead, the officer on duty arrested the girl.

"We suspect she was defiled and later murdered, this is not normal. What was she arrested for?” questioned Sauti.

Ganze Deputy County Commissioner Richard Karani disclosed that investigations into the matter had been launched.

The deceased's body was transferred to Kilifi County Hospital Referral mortuary.
