A fire burnt down a section of the offices of the County Government of Kisumu on the evening of Sunday, February 9.
A report by Citizen TV indicated that the incident occurred on the second floor of Prosperity House where the county government offices are situated.
Quoting a source from the scene, the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) was among the affected with crucial documents that were part of the pending bills the county government owed its contractors being destroyed.
The Daily Nation reported that most of the computers in the office had been destroyed before that fire was contained.
Police officers have launched investigations into the incident.
The trend is suspected to be a continuation of a series of government offices alleged to be burnt down in an attempt to scuttle investigations into corrupt dealings.
In September 2019, a fire broke out in the wee hours of the morning leaving a government building in Busia burned to a crisp.
According to various reports at the time, the fire was believed to have broken out at around 2 a.m.
What raised suspicion during the breakout was the fact that a recently purchased fire engine was a stone-throw away as the fire engulfed the offices.
The county firefighters managed to quell the fire which had already destroyed a larger section of the office which housed the county’s financial documents.
In a similar incident, the Kitui County Finance and Economic Planning offices were also gutted down by fire on July 22, 2019.
