IN PICTURES: Moi's Grand Send-off

As early as 1:00 a.m, Kenyans were streaming into the Nyayo National Stadium for the national prayer service for Kenya's second president, the late Daniel arap Moi.

By 7:40 a.m the military gun carriage had already arrived at the stadium ahead of Moi's requiem service.

Kenyans coming into the stadium were given branded Moi caps in commemoration of the departed president. By 9:30 a.m, the body had left State House for the stadium.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as well and Deputy President William Ruto were at the venue by 9:50 a.m. ready to receive the body as it came in from State House.

 

By 10:10 a.m, two presidents had arrived namely Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and Rwandan President Paul Kagame.

There was a scuffle as the Rwandan president entered the stadium with security officers appearing to block his security detail. IT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru who was at the entrance was also shoved away by the officers after an apparent misunderstanding. 

 

From Tanzania came two former presidents: Jakaya Kikwete and Benjamin Mkapa while Nigeria sent in the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Dignitaries from South Sudan, Ethiopia, Malawi, the UK, and Ireland had also arrived. 

 

 

 

 The interdenominational prayer service was led by the African Inland Church.
