For 36 years, Mama Celina was homeless, sick and neglected by her family and the society after serving a two-year jail term back in 1981.

Her story depicted a person with a heart cluttered in pain and sorrow until Kameme TV presenter Njuguna Gicheha alias Man Nyari came to her rescue after meeting her in August 2019.

His colleague told Kenyans.co.ke that the famous presenter took decided to bring joy and peace to the woman, well known as Mama Celina, through his popular show Njanjo that airs every Saturday morning.

“Man Nyari took the step of bringing back joy to Mama Celina after learning of her difficult life of over 30 years. He decided to follow up on the matter even after the show was done,” remarked the journalist.

Through a post on Facebook, the presenter gave a story of how the plan to rescue Mama Celina from her deep woes has now become a success.

“You remember the story of Mama Celina who we rescued from the streets of Mweiga having lived there since 1983? You remember how we reunited her with the daughters whom she last saw back in the early '80s?

“We promised by faith that we shall settle her into a decent house. God has done it!” wrote the presenter.

Man Nyari further indicated that despite falling ill after being rescued from the streets, the mission to give the woman a decent place to stay continued.

“Last week but one she fell ill and almost got into a coma. I felt that I should visit her in the hospital and declare to her that no matter her situation she's moving in into her new house on February 29 and not otherwise.

“I believe that all this was the plan of God for Mama Celina to one day live well. I will personally hand over the house to her on February 29,” added Man Nyari.

According to the presenter, the woman was arrested and jailed for two years after being accused of punishing her child.

After her jail term, the woman was released from prison but unfortunately, the society did not accept her back and always treated her like an outcast.

She was also denied a reunion with her children as the community and close family members had already handed them over to an unknown children’s home and all her efforts to reunite with them ended in futility.

Out of depression, Mama Celina ended up getting to Mathare Mental Hospital on a regular basis as her mental status grew worse every day.

She eventually ended up in the streets of Mweiga Town in Nyandarua County where she was known to roam without a family, surviving on what she collected from the garbage bins and from passersby until the presenter came to her rescue.

After she was featured on the Njanjo show in August 2019, the presenter successfully managed to trace her children in an emotional reunion on live TV.

A well-wisher had donated a piece of land located in Juja whereas others pledged money to help alleviate the living conditions of the woman.
