5 Prominent Persons Mercilessly Attacked by KOT

Kenyans on Twitter have proven to be a lethal weapon against people involved in corruption, inhuman attacks, incompetence in their functions, or those who simply spew statements that are seemingly unreasonable.

While some may argue that KOT entails nothing but a game of hashtags where self-interest driven agendas are propagated, a few times the group has forced mighty and presumably untouchable individuals out of office, while those gushing loose statements forced to eat a humble pie.

Kenyans.co.ke has compiled a list of five prominent persons who have suffered the wrath of the unforgiving KOT in the past, while highlighting what transpired during what could be the victims' darkest period online.

1. Anne Waiguru

During her time as the Devolution and Planning, Ms Waiguru had several bruising moments with KOT, after reports of massive looting of public funds began surfacing from her ministry.

The former CS was linked to the loss of Millions at the National Youth Service (NYS) and also in outrageous procurement of items like; penile and venile stimulators, condom dispensers, an office piano etc.

Memes, insults and jokes were cast at Waiguru with many constantly demanding her resignation until she finally bowed to pressure.

After caving in, Waiguru indicated that the attacks she received on social media affected her health and her family tremendously.

2. Ruto's Pilot

This is the recent agenda that KOT successfully drove under the hashtag #DeportRutosPilot.

Captain Alistair Patrick Llewelyn, a pilot hired by the Deputy President, is the latest victim after a video showing him assaulting a policewoman made rounds on social media.

KOT, without further ado, roasted the Australian pilot, and called on the police to handle the matter.

Within a few hours, the pilot was arrested and fired by a company that had subcontracted his services.

The Captain appeared before the court on Wednesday this week and was slapped with charges.

3. Mutahi Ngunyi

Political Analyst Mutahi Ngunyi is one person who was bashed by KOT over irresponsible statements he made on his Twitter account.

In his statement, Ngunyi labeled the Luo and Luhya communities as 'poverty stricken group'.

“The Luo Nation MUST liberate itself from the BONDAGE and poverty-producing SPELL of Odingaism. PERIOD. Is there a MOSES amongst the Luo?” Ngunyi said in his tweet.

His explosive hateful remarks landed him in trouble with the Law Society of Kenya CEO Apollo Mboya who took him to court after public outcry online.

After a serious tussle on social media, Ngunyi finally kissed his feet and apologised for the reckless statement.

4. Larry Madowo

NTV journalist Larry Madowo also found himself at the mercies of the brutal online mob, after he referred to CORD leader Raila Odinga in words that were rather demeaning.

Odinga's supporters marshaled all their weapons against Madowo when he tweeted: “Show of hands, who else was expecting an explosive list from Raila Odinga and all we got was nothing more than a fart?”

His remarks came after the Opposition leader released the much anticipated Eurobond list of individuals who allegedly benefited from the fund, but instead gave a 'persons of interest' list, leaving many deflated.

Madowo later apologised over the choice of his words:“I apologize for my explosive Eurobond tweet and I've deleted it. The responses have degenerated into a tribal war & that wasn't my intention”.

5. Ole Lenku

The former Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Co-ordination Joseph Ole Lenku also fell in the merciless hands of KOT, who rubbished his ability to handle the security of the country.

Lenku was greatly insulted with many demanding his removal from the security docket following constant attacks by the al shabaab militia group.

His problems heightened during the Westgate Mall terror attack where 67 people were killed by the militants in a siege that lasted close to four days.

Lenku was the laughing stock in the country as he made statements that were termed ignorant during major crisis in the country.

The hotelier was relieved of duty by President Uhuru Kenyatta barely 20 months after he was nominated to head the Security docket.

He was replaced by the current CS, Joseph Nkaissery, amid accusations that he had become a security liability hence the Retired General's takeover.
