50-Year Old Female 'Gangster' Arraigned in Nairobi Court

A 50-year old woman was arraigned in court on Wednesday after allegedly shooting and robbing a man in Nairobi.

The court heard that the suspect identified as Wairimu shot one Martin Munga at Ojijo/Forest Road roundabout causing the latter serious injuries.

During the robbery, Wairimu was armed with a pistol in the company of other gangsters who were not present in court.

She, however, denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo and was released on a Sh2 Million bond with a surety of the same amount.

Nonetheless, Magistrate Ogembo denied Wairimu cash bail and set the hearing date for May 19.

Her robbery case comes a few months after the City was put on high alert, following police reports on a notorious gang led by an elderly woman, that was on a shop-robbing spree within the Capital.

A few days ago, two women and a male accomplice in a high end burglary syndicate were arrested with numerous sets of keys and crude weapons.

According to the police, Emmah Wambui Wanjiru, Elizabeth Akinyi Abuto and Wilson Marwa Giyabe, worked in cahoots with watchmen, caretakers and housegirls to steal from lavish homes.
