Gang Robs 20 Lavish Homes During Easter

Police have nabbed a three-man gang that had broken into various houses in Nairobi's high end estates, Kilimani and Kileleshwa.

The suspects, two women and a man, who were arrested on Sunday in the Central Business District, were found with numerous sets of keys and crude weapons believed to have been used in carrying out the break ins.

According to police, Emmah Wambui Wanjiru, Elizabeth Akinyi Abuto and Wilson Marwa Giyabe, had been masquerading as guests while working in cahoots with watchmen, caretakers, housegirls in their target homes.

Police further confirmed that Ms Akinyi was a wanted suspect with three warrants of arrest against her, adding that her accomplice Mr Marwa was tasked with finding market for the stolen goods outside Kenya.

The three, who operate in hired vehicles, are said to have raided more than 20 homes in the lavish estates, where the owners had travelled for the Easter holiday. The suspects had been using black masking tape to change the vehicles registration numbers to avoid detection by police or their victims.

In one of the houses, the victims reported to have lost jewellery worth Sh2 Million and foreign currency amounting to Sh3 Million. Others reportedly lost iPads, electronics, watches, jewelery, bags and cash among other valuables.

Police alerted any persons who may have lost property during the Easter weekend to report to the Kilimani Police Station where the suspects are detained.

The suspected burglars said to be part of a wider criminal cartel, are set to be arraigned in court on Tuesday.
