The investigations into the death of Kipyegon Kemei, an officer attached to Deputy President William Ruto's office, thickens after new information revealed tense working relationships between him and operatives at Harambee House Annex.

According to a report by the Daily Nation on Wednesday, February 26, Kemei had approached a Cabinet Secretary who is close to the DP to facilitate his transfer from Harambee House Annex.

This was reportedly due to tensions between Kenei and some of the DP’s operatives, which spilled into the public domain following former CS Rashid Echesa's arrest over the Ksh39 billion weapons scam.

The CS in question, however, told Kenei to keep serving in the position as the deputy president had expressed confidence in him and his work.

“The CS, a close ally of DP Ruto, told Kenei that the DP had confidence in him, and with the possibility of him being elected to State House in the 2022 General Election, Kenei would be appointed to a good position. He urged him to continue serving Ruto,” a source told the publication.

According to the reports, Kemei had been a close aide of the DP and was trusted to run errands not only in his office but also in his Sugoi home.

Such closeness is alleged to have put him at loggerheads with some of the deputy president's operatives, thus resulting into a difficult working environment that prompted the transfer request.

Even though he was going through such difficulties, Kemei is reported to have kept his family in the dark about the goings-on at his work station.

The information coming to light infuriated John Chesang’, the father to the deceased, who urged the deputy president to personally take charge of the investigation.

He is reported to have given the DP these conditions when the latter called to condole with the family and promise a thorough probe.

Kenei was further believed to be the one who received Echesa at Ruto's second-floor office without the knowledge of one of the DP's secretaries.

Reports further indicate that the police believe that Kenei was acting under the instructions of an unnamed high-ranking government official.
