The Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) camp may have hit a snag on the road as it dithers on setting a date for an Eldoret rally.

Proponents of the BBI seem unable to set a date to champion their cause in Deputy President William Ruto's backyard.

According to a report published by the Daily Nation on  Monday, March 2, the hesitance may be attributed to worries over hate messages apparently being spread in the region.

Elgeyo-Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos, selected by President Kenyatta to head BBI meetings in the region seems stuck in his efforts to craft delicate diplomacy.

Even as the momentum of the BBI rallies is set to deposit in Nakuru, there are strong indications that neighbouring Eldoret may not play host to the mammoth crowds.

Abdirisack Jaldesa, the Uasin Gishu County Commissioner, expressed that he had not been informed of a rally in Eldoret.

"For now, they have not informed us about their BBI meeting here but when they do we will put in place all the necessary logistics. We will be ready to provide security when they tell us the date," stated Jaldesa.

Raila Odinga had earlier on provided that there would be a BBI meeting in Eldoret but with two months gone since the launch of the rallies in Kisii in January, doubts have been cast on the possibility of the campaign happening.

As it stands, DP Ruto's allies MP for Kapseret Oscar Sudi and MP for Soy Caleb Kositany, declared that they would not allow Raila Odinga preside over a BBI rally in the town.

"In Eldoret, we will not allow a BBI rally meant to divide Kenyans because we have been in a peaceful coexistence hence Raila and his team has no business to come to Uasin Gishu County,” asserted Kositany.

For their part, youth leaders in Uasin Gishu provided that they would only support a BBI rally in Eldoret if it addressed unemployment and other issues particular to the youth.

Collins Chepkulei, a Uasin Gishu youth leader stated, "As youths, we have realised that we are being misused by politicians and our stand is against violence. We are not going to accept any BBI rally which will divide us to take place in Eldoret."

The BBI rallies were set to end in March to give time for the implementation of the bill in Parliament and the planning of a referendum.
