Former Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo, who is former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's cousin, on Tuesday, March 3 disclosed that he had forgiven the four police officers who had assaulted him when he was arrested on February 3, in Kisumu.

Midiwo, when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Peter Gesora at the Kisumu Law Courts on March 3, indicated that Midiwo had chosen to withdraw the matter on his own will.

“The accused persons asked for my forgiveness and, because I am human, I have decided to withdraw it without being forced or threatened,” he stated.

Four police officers who are believed to have assaulted the former Gem MP and his driver at Milimani were arrested on Tuesday, February 11 and later arraigned in court to face assault charges.

The officer reportedly got into a scuffle with the former legislator after a disagreement, following which they allegedly battered him alongside his driver.

The officers who are attached to the Kisumu Central Police Station Crime Prevention Unit were not on official duty at the time of the incident.

Wachira, who was among the officers who stormed Midiwo's home was independently charged with stealing an Infinix mobile phone valued at Ksh15,000.

The officers had on February 24 pleaded not guilty to the charges and were released on a Ksh 50,000 bond or Ksh 20,000 cash bail each.

After Midiwo's statement, Magistrate Gesora then acquitted the four officers of all the charges that had been leveled against them.
