Nandi County Governor Stephen Sang on March 6 instituted disciplinary action against his county staff over what he termed as poor quality of work.

The Jubilee governor suspended four county officials after shoddy work was done on a service lane in Chepkunyuk Ward, Nandi Hills County.

They were identified as Caleb Kiboen, Joseph Too, Pius Kipruto and Edwin Maswai.

The sixty metre-road had been done shoddily and photos went viral online. This caught the governor's eye and was quick to act.

In a press statement shared on the governor's Facebook page, the governor instructed the Department of Transport Infrastructure to begin disciplinary proceedings on the four fired county staff.

"Our attention has been drawn to some shoddy work that was done on March 5, 2020. The works did not meet the basic road works standards," he stated.

"The officials did not involve the county engineer before embarking on the work," he added.

"I have directed the Department of Transport to begin a disciplinary process on the staff who are hereby suspended with immediate effect," read part of the statement.

The team was supposed to construct a tarmac road but ended up doing shoddy work. Photos that were uploaded by Governor Sang and Senator Cherargei showed a dilapidated road.

He further added that it was important for all county officials to take their work seriously.

"County staff should diligently undertake their work and deliver quality services with utmost standards required of them," he concluded.

The findings of the disciplinary processes are expected to be forwarded to the County Human Resource Advisory Committee within one month for appropriate action to be taken against the county officers.
