A woman from Samburu County has reportedly committed suicide after her family accused her of exhibiting Coronavirus symptoms.

A report from the Daily Nation on Friday, March 20, indicates that the woman had shown flu-like symptoms that her family interpreted as COVID-19.

County health officials, however, are reported to have treated the woman for tonsilitis and high fever after she was taken to the facility.

The death of the Samburu woman comes barely two days after another man was lynched by a mob that suspected him of having the COVID-19 virus.

The incidents in the near past point to ignorance and misinformation surrounding the pandemic that has put the entire world on its toes.

The government has been grappling with plenty of fake news surrounding the COVID-19 and has taken measures which include threatening to arrest those spreading misinformation to the Kenyan public.

Sentiments discriminating against people suspected of suffering from the virus have also been seen even in advanced countries like the United States who take out anger on the Chinese in their midst.
