The government has taken action after an outcry from Kenyans under quarantine at the Lenana High School.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Sunday, March 29, Government Spokesperson Cyrus Oguna confirmed that plans to fumigate the institution were on high gear.

Kenyans quarantined at the facility had complained about the deplorable state they were living in at the institution with several claiming that safety measures to curb Covid-19 spread were not adhered to properly.

"It is true the government is going to fumigate Lenana High School. The exercise is expected to start soon," stated Oguna.

In a video obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, gloved workers are seen cleaning up one of the hostels hosting the patients and on a table next to them, fumigation equipment are seen.

In an earlier video, however, a Twitter user had shown one of the hostels in a deplorable state with beds, apparently used by the patients, lacking beddings.

There were claims that several people under quarantine were sharing a small cubicle heightening the risk of infection to those who were negative, given that none of the cooupants were tested.

"We have 7,000 Kenyans in quarantine who arrived back between Wednesday and Sunday. In Dagoretti South Constituency we are hosting them at Lenana School and Kinyanjui Tech.

"How they got there and the chaos therein is a story for another day," stated Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie in an early morning tirade against the government.

The institution reportedly holds more than 500 patients but most of them only got tested for temperature, and water supply was allegedly minimal.

"Are we quarantining people so that they can become sick or what? Images from Lenana School "quarantine centre" are terrible, pathetic, sad.

"If one person is confirmed infected in that place, all the others will be for sure," lamented another concerned Kenyan.

"Government needs to do something about the people quarantined at Lenana school and Kinyanjui Technical. At Dagoretti Constituency we are complaining of water supply for the last two months, what are these people using, like seriously?" posed another Twitter user.

In Kenya, the disease has claimed one life as of March 28, with 38 others confirmed to have been infected.
