Murang'a Woman Representative Sabina Chege on Sunday, March 29, surprised many as she took time to preach to Kenyans on the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

Chege, who also chairs the Health Committee in the National Assembly, appeared on NTV's Crossover 101 show where she spoke for almost ten minutes on what the pandemic means for the country from a Christian perspective.

She cited a number of Bible passages as she urged citizens including her fellow politicians to turn back to God, telling Kenyans that the pandemic was a reminder that God exists.

"I'm a politician but I think the first thing is that we are all children of God. We can't divorce ourselves from the church, from Christianity or from the fear of the Lord.

"What recently happened with the Corona[virus] pandemic, and we've seen even the president call people to repentance, is not new. It has happened before even in the Bible, things go repeating themselves and we've seen that every time, people repent and go back to God.

"I think it's a time that God gives us just to remind us that he exists, he's in charge and he's still there," Chege stated.

She called on Kenyans to take the pandemic as an opportunity to think about what they can do differently to live meaningful lives.

Chege further urged Kenyans to learn lessons from the period of crisis and engrave them in their hearts, stating that the world had been reset to 'factory settings'.

"God is calling all of us to rethink how we live, to rethink how we care for the vulnerable in society.

"When this pandemic came, we're seeing we have people who cannot afford food or rent at the end of the month. What can we do about it?

"Even in how we organise the government or plan as Parliament, we need to start thinking deeper and having deep consideration of the weak in society. God is not a respecter of persons," she stated.

Chege lamented that the church in Kenya had in recent times been misused, alluding to fights and rants on the pulpit involving politicians.

She advised Kenyans to make the most of their time at home due to the pandemic, urging them to spend time with their families and reflect on their lives.

Chege further sought to assure Kenyans that God was watching over them even as the virus continued to ravage the world.

"We are all being set back to factory settings. There is a lot of hope and we should not lose hope.

"This thing will teach us very hard lessons and some of them will be painful. But God loves all of us, he is the one who created us, and we should not lose hope at all," Chege asserted.

In Kenya, 38 confirmed cases of the virus have so far been reported as well as one full recovery and one fatality.

The numbers are expected to rise as the Ministry of Health ramps up its testing capacity across the country.
