Nairobi County officials are thinking about the possibility of using planes in fumigating the capital in the fight against Covid-19.

Nairobi Health Services Executive Hitan Majevdia says that aerial fumigation is the best and fastest way to fumigate the city as this will drastically reduce the spread of Coronavirus.

Countries affected by Covid-19 have resorted to fumigation as its one of the better ways of controlling the spread of communicable diseases.

Nairobi County is the most affected county by Covid-19, managing and controlling its spread within the county is effective in ensuring that most Kenyans are not at risk of possible infections by carriers of the virus from the city.

Last week but one county public health officials working in liaison with the ministry of health began mass screening, sensitization and fumigation exercise within different sub-counties of the city.

County Deputy Director of Public Health Wilson Langat said that week three of the county fumigation exercise will today take place in Westlands and Embakasi sub-counties.

Last week Muthurwa and Burma markets were fumigated and traders sensitized on health and hygiene.

While speaking to Kenyans, Burma market administrator Lilian Ouma stated that they expect to be frequently cleaning Burma market and not only wait for county officials to be the ones to do it.

"Today is a good day for us as the county is assisting us to clean and fumigate the market, we can assure you that we shall adopt this cleanliness exercise to maintain better health for us and also our food customers,''

''We can only call upon the county government to ensure that we have running water and soap as they are very essential in the fight against this disease. Traders should also maintain the required social distance'' added Lilian.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko also took to the street together with Sonko Rescue team to assist in the fumigation exercise.

Although still an idea, aerial fumigation may be adopted sooner or later and county residents are advised to have their windows closed at night in order to avert the effects that the drugs may have on their bodies.
