Police have arrested Kilifi Deputy Governor Gideon Saburi at the Coast General Hospital after violating the 14-day quarantine directive.

With just a day since he was declared healed of the Coronavirus, Saburi's woes are showing no signs of abating following his arrest.

At around midday on Friday, April 3, Police stormed the Coast General Hospital to arrest Saburi but the Deputy Governor noted that he needed a certain kind of dressing before he can leave his ward.

Police were on stand by for about two hours to arrest him as they had to wait for his lawyer to arrive before taking him into custody.

In his daily press briefing on Thursday, April 2, Ministry of Health Cabinet Secretary confirmed Saburi had made a total recovery, "I am also pleased to announce to you that the Deputy Governor of Kilifi County has fully recovered."

Mutahi, however, added that Saburi will still face the full wrath of the law, "The issue of the law will now follow up with him."

Saburi tested positive of Covid-19 on Sunday, March 22, weeks after arriving in the country from Germany via Amsterdam on March 6.

The Deputy Governor failed to comply with the 14-day quarantine directive issued by the government for those who had travelled from countries affected by Covid-19.

He is reported to have met a group of MCAs on March 7 at Royal Hotel in Mazeras to discuss preparations for International Women's Day celebrations that were to be held in Rabai.

Saburi also attended the burial of the late former Deputy Governor Kenneth Kamto's bodyguard on the same date and was reportedly sighted at a night club in Bamburi, Mombasa on March 19.

His defiance of the government directive has had a telling effect in Kilifi with the county now placed as a hot spot of the virus with nine cases as of Thursday, April 2.

On Saturday, March 28 Saburi pleaded for forgiveness following his actions, “I am very remorseful for bringing anxiety on Coronavirus spread in Kilifi County and the entire country and hope that people will find a heart to forgive me."
