Police gunned down a notorious terror suspect after they engaged him in a shootout in Likoni, Mombasa County on Friday, April 24.

Daily Nation on Friday night, April 24, was first to report that Kennedy Okaka Otunge was shot down after the police traced him to the house of another terror suspect, Ali Kodza (Pembe).

Kodza, a wanted criminal too, was absent as Okaka succumbed to bullet injuries.

Police had been gathering intel on the two suspects for the past months.

Reports alleged that Okaka and Kodza were planning to ambush police and to steal weapons from the officers.

Mombasa County Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo confirmed the incident as a police report detailed how that the shootout commenced after Okaka opened fire at the police.

"The team promptly responded, fatally injuring Kennedy Okaka Otunge inside the house," an excerpt of the report reads.

Police seized an AK-47 rifle, serial number 0669, three 7.62 calibre bullets and a magazine.

The news comes two days after two men were killed by police officers following a dramatic shoot-out that ensued during the dusk-to-dawn curfew, in Mombasa.

The two individuals were suspected to be part of a gang alleged to have been terrorizing residents during the curfew.

The incident was confirmed by Nyali OCPD Daniel Masamba who told reporters that the thugs had left the Majengo area at around 1 a.m. to commit various crimes, but encountered police officers at the Nyali Bridge.
