Three legislators will spend 14 days under mandatory quarantine after they were arrested flouting Covid-19 directives issued by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In a police record seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the lawmakers were arrested on the night of Saturday, April 25, while in a bar in Kisii.
The trio was arrested together with one county official in Kisii Town.
They were taken to Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in Kisii with seven other people where they will be expected to undergo Covid-19 tests.
"Police officers from Nyatieko Police Station and Kitutu Central CIPU were on patrol on enforcement of the above subject when they found the following people gathered and drinking beer at Embassy Resort within Nyakoe area.
"They were all arrested and taken to KMTC quarantine centre Kisii to be examined on Covid- 19 decease. Assorted beer recovered and held as exhibit awaiting further police action," read the police report in part.
The identities of the lawmakers were revealed to be Samwel Onuko (MCA Bochorabu Ward), Moindi Protus (MCA Bomriba) and Risper Kemunto (nominated).
Confirming the incident, Kisii County Commander Jabeel Munene noted that more sting operations to nab those who flout the rules were in the offing.
The arrests brought the total number of Kenyans under forced quarantine in Kisii to 17.
MCAs have increasingly flouted the state directive on curbing the pandemic spread including one who was nabbed on Tuesday, April 21, for not wearing a mask.
Police reports showed that Marimanti Ward MCA Susan Ngugi was arrested for violating the national government's directive on public gatherings.
The government had suspended all public gatherings in a bid to tame the spread of Covid-19 through ensuring strict adherence to social distancing.
