A Latema travels matatu Sacco driver fled for safety after his vehicle was attacked by rowdy operators from a rival Sacco on Friday, May 15.

The incident which transpired mid-morning at Gachie area, Kiambu county, had the rival city matatu operators involved in running battles after they allegedly disagreed on fare prices.

Kiambaa Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Peter Maina who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke revealed that Ganaki Sacco had raised concerns of other Saccos invading their route.

"We have a situation at Kihara, where this Sacco called Ganaki is alleging that other Saccos are invading their route. We had this since yesterday.

"I have sent officers to the area to calm the situation, but I am expecting a meeting with the leaders of the two Saccos to resolve the problem," Maina stated.

In videos seen by Kenyans.co.ke, rowdy operators could be seen hurling insults at each other over allegations that one Sacco was undercutting the other.

Reports indicated that Ganaki Matatu Sacco had accused Latema Sacco of ferrying passengers at a cheaper price, and was thus undercutting their business.

In one of the videos, irate operators could be seen hurling stones at a moving bus, who's driver had apparently fled in the melee.

They rained in on the bus, which was moving in reverse, shuttering its window panes, until it veered off and rammed into kiosks by the road.

Police officers were alerted and rushed to the scene where they foiled the commotions.
