UPDATE: Mombasa-based politician and businessman Salim Mohamed has been tracked down and found at Kijipwa Police Station, Kilifi County.

Speaking outside the precinct, Nyali MP Mohamed Ali, revealed that the politician was allegedly apprehended for failing to adhere to social distancing rules while handing out food donations that were provided by Deputy President William Ruto.

"His Crime was distributing food sent by DP William Ruto to Kikambala residents. Mohamed Salim aka Tenge has now been Granted cash bail of Ksh20,000. God willing, tomorrow he will be at Shanzu Law Courts. Petty Politics," the vocal legislator tweeted.

Six armed police officers, on Tuesday, May 19, raided the home of the Mombasa-based politician.

According to his wife, Hafsa Swaleh, the armed men who identified themselves as police officers ransacked the entire house and left as swiftly as they came, leaving Salim's wife in a state of shock.

The unexpected raid came just a day after Hafsa had reported that her husband was missing, as he had not made it back home since Monday, May 18.

Notably, Salim was last seen at Kanamai, Kilifi County, where he handed out food and other essential items to the locals, going on to reveal that the consignment of goodies had come directly from his good friend, Deputy President William Ruto.

"We are going to distribute the contents of 3 trucks here in Kilifi and the three other trucks will serve the people of Old Town in Mombasa," Salim stated as he handed out the DP's donation.

His whereabouts are yet to be established, and his wife has since revealed that attempts to contact him through his phone were unsuccessful as it seemed to have been switched off.

She also stated that the police officers who combed through their entire house demanded to know where her husband was, and she responded by telling them that she was also desperately looking for him.

The businessman-turned-politician was at the forefront of the battle against Covid-19, with his social media pages filled with videos and images of him canvassing the coastal town handing out food, face masks and other essential items.

Ever since the outbreak of Covid-19 in March 2020, he had been spending his days and nights handing out food to the destitute and homeless, as well as sharing videos of the sad state of some of the poorest residents in the coastal area.
