He had been taken ill after experiencing a stomach ailment and hypertension.

He underwent an operation and was recuperating in hospital albeit still in a little pain.

His younger sister Mary Mwanga told the media that he was operated on four weeks ago on his prostrate, and was recuperating well before his situation deteriorated.

“He has been having stomach ulcers that have disturbed his health for quite some while. When we eventually took him to hospital, it was found that he had other problems with his prostate that called for an operation,” Mwanga disclosed.

Last week, medics recommended that John be allowed to have quality bed rest until a successful recovery.

“I’m getting better after the surgery, though I’ll still need a lot of bed rest as the doctor recommended,” he said last week.

The musician bowed out of performing in 2016 and retired to a quiet life in his rural home near Kaimosi, Vihiga County.

When Kenyans talk about the greatest musicians in Kenya, Nzenze is mentioned alongside Daudi Kabaka, John Mwale and George Agade.
