Ford Kenya Party Leader Moses Wetangula has had the last laugh in the fight to control the party.
In a letter addressed to the Kakamega senator on Thursday, June 4, Political Parties Registrar Anne Nderitu acknowledged that Wetangula was still the party leader.
"In line with Articles 37 and 50 of the Ford-Kenya Party constitution, the NEC & PG meeting on May 31, 2020, did not meet the applicable quorum to hear and determine disciplinary matters,” she observed, quashing his ouster.
She, therefore, noted that the statutory form PP7 on Notice of Change of Party Officials was not filed.
The political parties registrar also acknowledged the disciplinary action taken against errant members of the party who convened the illegal meeting to eject Wetangula.
The senator suspended Ford Kenya Secretary General Eseli Simiyu and replaced him with Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa.
Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi, who was to take Wetangula’s position was replaced by West Mugirango MP Vincent Mogaka as Sectoral Chair for Livestock.
The purge has continued to Busia County Assembly which is the latest front in the battle to control the party.
Ford Kenya allied Members of County Assembly and party officials in the region have vowed that their colleagues who openly supported the attempted ouster of Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula as Party Leader must be expelled.
The suspended officials had led a team in filing a notification of the party’s change of leadership at the political parties registrar on June 2.
Wetangula’s camp also filed their papers, putting the party’s leadership at the hands of the registrar.
“We will go through the documents deposited by both parties and will communicate to them in two to three days,” Nderitu explained.
