Baite TV news anchor Murega Baicu has been accused of neglecting his first family after marrying Meru Woman Rep Kawira Mwangaza.
The issue was brought to the limelight by his firstborn daughter Jane who shares her second name with the politician.
Jane spoke to reporters from The Standard Group on Thursday June 4, highlighting that her education was at risk since her mother could not afford college fees.
“I have applied for my college and university and my dream is to pursue a KMTC diploma. I might get admitted but I am not sure that my mother will be able to pay for the course,” she stated.
Jane added that their father cut links with his first family in 2015.
Her current abode is Tigania Catholic Parish where she lives with her mother and two siblings.
The news anchor married his first wife, Sabina, under customary law and she has now appealed to him through a charity run alongside his current wife.
“Charity begins at home and we also want to benefit from those Okolea projects that rescue the destitute because much as we are flesh and blood, we are far worse off than some of the cases the program assists,” she urged.
Murega’s response to the accusation was a reminder that Sabina had taken the battle for custody of the children to court.
“I cannot respond on an issue already in court,” he told the media.
Sabina’s younger brother John Mwenda Mutabari has been taking care of the family and expressed his heartbreak at seeing them suffer.
“It’s heartless that even the former family home at Maburua Village near Giaki Market in North Imenti was uprooted and materials donated to build a shelter for a nearby needy family,” he stated.
On May 31, the family received a donation of Ksh 40,000, three bales of flour, 10 litres of cooking oil and a carton of bar soaps from local activist Mike Makarena.
