West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo on Sunday, June 14 appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta to ban the warring Tangatanga and Kieleweke political factions.
Tangatanga is made up of leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto while Kieleweke leaders pledge allegiance to President Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.
Lonyangapuo described both groups as nonsensical and wondered why important issues were being ignored at the expense of political machinations.
He argued that with 2 years left to the end of Uhuru's term, the President needed to truly crack the whip by putting an end to various political meetings and activities that have dominated the headlines in recent weeks.
"I wish we could store this energy for politics until June 2022 when we will be free to run helter-skelter. But for now, let's stop it.
"I want to request the Head of State, who is a nobleman, if he can declare this noise as a burden in Kenya for it to stop, then it will stop," he stated.
He stated that any disagreements between Uhuru and his deputy should be left to the duo to sort out as they were elected together.
The Governor noted that other than dividing citizens, the groupings had also shifted focus away from development projects that could directly benefit Kenyans.
He further dismissed links to the Tangatanga faction due to his past attendance of events in West Pokot alongside the Deputy President.
Lonyangapuo noted that he attended the functions after being invited to the launch of government projects, questioning if he was to decline the invitations because of the DP's involvement.
"I hear them saying Lonyangapuo is bringing Tangatanga. What is the meaning of Tangatanga? The definition is people who are mad.
"Others are calling themselves Kieleweke. What is Kieleweke? Those things should be stopped, completely stopped. If you want to destroy your parties, wait until the right time comes," he stated.
Maintaining that he could not support any candidate for President before 2022, Lonyangapuo declared his full support for President Kenyatta.
"If you come to me right now and ask me to sing your name because you want to be President, I will tell you off. I will tell him off because you are now imposing yourself on a country that has a President, Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta.
"We need to support President Uhuru Kenyatta with all our might as human beings. Now we are creating division and divided attention in this land, there is only one leader in this republic and we need to support him," he stated.
