A video of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga telling off the outgoing National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has resurfaced.

In the undated video, Raila, while speaking during a rally, detailed that he personally picked Duale from the Kenyan Coast and kickstarted his political career in Garissa.

He further noted that he was the intermediary between the leader and Imam elders in the Nothern Kenya region and that he had financed his early career.

"This man Duale, I picked him from Mombasa where he worked. I brought him here in Garissa and got him together with Imams. I told them that I wanted him to vie in the area," he stated at the time.

The former premier further revealed that Deputy President William Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta were not willing to work with him at the time.

"Ruto and Uhuru did not want him. I got him from rock bottom and uplifted him to the top and financed all his campaigns.

"Now, he abuses me wherever he goes and I noticed he did not have manners but I left it all to God. When children abuse their fathers, you just watch them because I can't fight him," he added.

He further threw a jab, in his address, to Ruto who was being praised by Duale at the time noting that he did not have respect in equal measure.

During his ouster in a Parliamentary Group meeting convened by President Uhuru Kenyatta, Duale was allegedly edged out largely because he is considered a close ally of the DP.

Duale's political career kicked off in 2007 when he ran on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket before he later decamped to Deputy President William Ruto's United Republican Party  (URP) that was dissolved to form Jubilee Party.

In an earlier interview, Duale disclosed that he had enjoyed a rosy relationship with Raila but it was all thrown into disarray after the formation of the coalition government with former President Mwai Kibaki.

He claimed that several MPs, himself included, decamped after they felt that the former premier had neglected their agenda.

“When we formed the grand coalition after the disputed 2007 election, we felt that our vision had been ignored. We, therefore, decided to leave and form URP," he stated in 2016.

After they differed, the lawsuit that followed, as Duale confirmed, cost him Ksh10 million.

"Raila inducted me into politics, so I respect him a lot. We were once very close friends. Our beef is not personal, it’s just politics. Politically, I went to the Raila Odinga primary and secondary schools.

"At the university, it’s William Ruto and Uhuru Kenyatta who has taught me. So, I am a good student of Raila Odinga’s, William Ruto’s and Uhuru Kenyatta’s schools of politics," he also noted in a sit-down with The Standard in 2014.

Duale was replaced by Kipipiri MP Amos Kimunya.
