Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) Director-General Mohammed Badi on Thursday, July 23 moved to secure a piece of grabbed county land in Gigiri, Nairobi.

Meant for a fire station, the land was grabbed years ago and converted into a large business complex serving the upmarket area.

Donning full military gear, Badi was accompanied to the site by several security officers, Westlands MP Timothy Wanyonyi and the area Member of the County Assembly (MCA).

Badi asserted that the land would be restored to serve its original purpose, with fire trucks to be moved into the area and the existing businesses moved out.

Badi, however, promised traders based in the area that they would be given time to move out as opposed to immediately forcing them out.

"This is not the last stop. This land was meant for a fire station. There is land meant for public schools that has also been grabbed.

"So I would like to warn anyone who might have grabbed public land in the county that this is not over," he asserted.

Badi's move was welcomed by MP Timothy Wanyonyi who noted that they had desperately tried to have the land reclaimed but to no avail.

"We have raised the issue before but we could not do anything because we were not the ones in City Hall where decisions were being made," he stated.

Wanyonyi urged Badi to continue with the process to reclaim all land to restore important public utilities in the city.

The operation at Gigiri came barely a week after Badi led a similar operation to reclaim a grabbed piece of land on Monday, July 13.

Work had already begun on high-rise apartments on the land. Badi, however, promised that a public Hospital would be built on the site.
