An MCA from Kajiado County was forced to call off his trip to Deputy President William Ruto’s residence on Friday, July 24, after he was involved in an accident.
The news was delivered by Ngong MCA Robert Gitua during the event that was held in Karen, Nairobi.
Nkaimurrunya MCA James Waichanguru Ndirangu was in the delegation that was travelling to Karen but on the way he hit a pedestrian.
The injured pedestrian was rushed to hospital by the MCA and is receiving treatment.
“I would like to deliver an apology from Waichanguru who was with us on the road but was involved in an accident. He hit a pedestrian near Shell Petrol Station and had to rush the victim to hospital," Gitua conveyed the message.
The event had been organised to empower young men and women from Kajiado by donating equipment to build their own businesses.
According to data from the National Transport and Safety Authority, more pedestrians die from road accidents than drivers and passengers.
367 pedestrians had been killed in the first four months of 2020 compared to 348 who died over a similar period in 2019.
Data from NTSA showed that 156 passengers had died as of April 13 compared to 205 in 2019.
Drivers’ fatalities decreased by 21 per cent to record 76 deaths compared to 97 during the same time in 2019.
One of the most common causes of pedestrian accidents is driver/pedestrian inattentiveness to the road.
