Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula on Sunday, July 26 was caught up in chaos as residents of Ngeria, Eldoret protested the arrest of two freelance journalists.
The Senator was on transit when his motorcade was held up in traffic after protesters blocked the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
He was forced to address the angry residents and promised to help the two journalists who were reportedly transferred to Nairobi by Director of Criminal Investigations for questioning.
"I heard that there were youths arrested from this area and I'm told you do not know where they are, I ask you to present me their names.
"I will look for them wherever they are and help them, take my phone number," noted Wetangula while addressing the protesters.
The angry residents lit up tyres to block the road, a situation that caused a huge traffic snarl up on the busy highway.
According to reports, Wetangula who was travelling to Nairobi was forced to alight and attempted to convince the demonstrators to let the traffic flow.
Isaac Kibet Yego and Emanuel Kimutai Kosgei were arrested on Saturday, July 25 after allegedly publishing fake news about Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi being in ICU.
DCI revealed that they recovered a laptop and mobile phones from the two who are set to be charged on Monday, July 27.
On Friday, the Ministry of Interior came out to deny the reports that Matiangi was in ICU following viral reports on social media.
"To all members of the public, please disregard the fake news and misinformation being spread on various outlets that CS Matiangi is hospitalized. The claims are completely untrue," the ministry tweeted.
The arrests have caused some backlash from a number of politicians including Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri who condemned the arrests.
