Over 200 families are set for eviction from a land parcel in Trans Mara West after a court ruled in favour of Kilgoris MP Gideon Konchellah.

The families are now asking Chief Justice David Maraga to intervene in the case that has been contested in court for 16 years.

The contentious 1,500-acre land parcel is both claimed by members of Olalui Group Ranch and the Kilgoris MP.

The ruling was delivered on Thursday, July 30, by the Environment and Lands Court in Narok where the families were declared trespassers.

It is not the first time the land parcel has brought conflict as families who are members of the Moitanik Clan crossed with those from Uasin Gishu where the MP hails from.

Konchellah noted that he acquired the land 33 years ago after it was allocated to him by his clan members.

"I was still a military personnel when I owned this land in 1986. My family and I are so relieved as we have proved that the land was not acquired illegally.

"I chose to be patient and not provoke war in the community. I am happy that the process though long, has been smooth and justice has prevailed," stated Konchellah.

The MP now plans to divide the 1,500-acre piece of land among his sons and urged the families to respect the court's decision.

The court issued a 45-day notice to the families to vacate the piece of land with Konchellah noting that he will be patient until the time lapses.

The affected families are now appealing to Chief Justice David Maraga to intervee in the decision that renders them homeless.

"He ought to have got shares equal to the rest. Where will all these members go?

"We want Maraga to look at our problem. Let him send people here to witness what has happened," stated former group Chairman Michael ole Risa.
