Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has accused senators of pocketing Ksh 5 million to pass the third basis division of revenue bill that has divided the house.

In a post on Twitter on Tuesday, August 4, he urged his colleagues to make independent decisions when the house votes on the bill.

He warned senators against compromising their stand for money, cautioning that curses would befall them.

“It will be suicidal for any senator to accept a bribe of Ksh5 million to fuel the division of Kenya due to the revenue share discourse! May your family never have peace if you accept a bribe to divide Kenya!” he posted.

Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot accused Ledama of being hypocritical since he was also whipped to support the removal of Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki as the deputy speaker.

"How much did you take to slaughter Prof Kindiki? The best deputy speaker we had as senate," Aaron Cheruiyot posed.

The controversial division of revenue bill has divided senators despite some of them being from the same camps.

Senator Cheruiyot who is a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto voted for the bill despite opposition from Senator Kipchumba Murkomen.

Senators Mithika Lithuri (Meru), Njeru Ndwiga (Embu), Moses Wetang’ula (Bungoma) and Michael Mbito (Trans Nzoia) also vowed to withdraw their support for the bill despite voting for it the first time.

Jubilee senators Johnson Sakaja, Anwar Oloitiptip and Murkomen have been threatened with sanctions in order to change their stand on the bill.

“We are not yet done, we will deal with the senators for going against the party position. They will have themselves to blame for their parochial decisions. We will kick them out of the party. Read our party constitution, it gives room to deal with them,” Jubilee Vice Chair David Murathe warned.

“How would you explain why the three went against the formula yet their counties had benefited? It is cheap politics and we will let them out so that they can go politick freely,” he added.
