Ministry of Devolution and Arid and Semi-Arid Lands became the latest state agency to be rocked by Covid-19 after 18 staffers tested positive.

In a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the Ministry through its Principal Secretary Charles Sunkuli confirmed the staffers had tested positive.

"Following the mass testing for Covid-19 that was done on 23rd July 2020, it has come to our attention that 18 officers tested positive for the disease out of 128 samples.

"The purpose of this memo is to request you to inform all officers working in your Departments to isolate themselves for the next two weeks, i.e from 3rd to 16th August 2020," read the memo in part.

A number of state ministries have been affected by Covid-19 with the National Treasury, Public Service Commission and Information Ministry being among those affected.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, a source from the Devolution Ministry who sought anonymity clarified on why the results were delayed.

"The offices are closed and we only reported today to finalise what the PS had to finish before we close completely until we continue.

"The results were delayed because people were tested on 23rd but results came back at around 31st as there was a backlog of results at Kemri," noted the source.

The Ministry of Lands headquarters were also shut down for two weeks in June after a number of staffers tested positive for the virus.

In a memo dated July 13, addressed to all heads of units at the Teleposta Towers, Correctional Services Principal Secretary Zeinab Hussein directed all the staff to proceed home on self-quarantine for 14 days.

The PS ordered that only a few staff who perform critical and essential services would be allowed to continue with operations.
