Condolences poured in from Kenyans on Twitter and Facebook following news of his death.

He featured for several teams in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) including Mathare United, Nairobi City Stars, Ulinzi Stars, Ushuru FC and Tusker FC.

Kevin also made appearance for two sides in the lower tiers of German football; KFC Uerdingen 05 and Alemannia Aachen.

He earned his first call-up to the national team Harambee Stars in 2005 under coach Twahir Muhiddin who selected him for a World Cup qualifier in 2005.

Kevin's passing comes two years after the death of his mother, Mary Auma Oliech known to many as Mama Oliech to gastric cancer. Other than being the mother to some of Kenya's most famous sporting personalities, she was also behind a popular fish restaurant bearing her name.

Kenyans who watched him play as well as members of the football fraternity were among those who mourned with the Oliech family.

He was remembered as a talented talisman who gave nightmares to defenders and gave it his all every time he stepped on the pitch.

"May your soul rest in peace Kevin Opiyo Oliech," wrote Newton Juma.
