The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), on the morning of Thursday, August 20, raided Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru's homes and offices.
In a statement by EACC, the raid was aimed at collecting evidence to support investigations into her alleged abuse of office after pocketing travel allowances amounting to Ksh 23 million.
The sleuths who claimed to have search warrants raided her homes and offices in Nairobi and Kirinyaga simultaneously.
The detectives disclosed that they possessed court warrants that allowed them to cease crucial documents from her homes to aid in their investigations.
In Mid-July, EACC grilled the governor over claims that she received Ksh10.6 million for trips that she never went for.
At the time, the commision claimed that it had interviewed up to 30 officials in relation to the trips made between 2018 and 2020.
The raid came barely months after the governor survived an impeachment attempt at the Senate.
Kirinyaga MCAs impeached Waiguru on June 9, on account of gross violation of the Constitution and abuse of office.
The 11-member select committee led by Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, however, cleared her of the charges noting that while various queries emerged on Waiguru's conduct, no clear connection was made between her and alleged shady procurement deals.
Refusing to accept the ruling of the Senate, Kirinyaga MCAs kickstarted another impeachment plan in July to disband her administration.
The process commenced on Monday, July 13, after Waiguru reached out to President Uhuru Kenyatta to help her resolve a standoff with the MCAs over the Kirinyaga County budget.
"I have already collected over 1,000 signatures in my ward," Kirinyaga Assembly Majority Leader Kamau Murango proclaimed at the time.
