The Principal Secretary (PS) in the State Department of Housing and Urban Development Charles Hinga on Thursday, August 20, revealed reasons why a section of the Kazi Mtaani Youth will miss out on their dues amounting to Ksh6 million.
Over 6,000 youth were set to be paid under the first Cohort, a situation that caused protests in various parts of the country.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Hinga stated that the rest of the cohort had been been two weeks prior and cleared the air over claims that youth with M-PESA Fuliza loans would have their pay automatically deducted.
"The 6,000 are from 22 counties. The first cohort was paid about two weeks ago with the program having over 283,000. The rest were paid today.
"The correct position is that [M-PESA] Fuliza specifically is not deducted, that is what we agreed with Safaricom, so the reports are not true," he explained to this writer.
From the second batch, 4,158 youth were paid a total of Ksh12,473,905 but Hinga noted that that 30% of the 6,000 wouldhave to wait longer to receive their payment due to several inaccuracies in the information they provided.
A total of 1,527 of the youth, Hinga said, had inactive lines with the PS advising them to visit a Safaricom Shop near them for instructions on how to activate them.
531 others missed out after their National ID details failed to match with the line registration details, while 34 had not registered their lines on M-Pesa.
Two of them had some missing digits in the phone numbers they submitted with the registers sent back to the counties for further action.
The PS went ahead to offer solutions to the youth who missed out on payment so that money could be wired to their accounts.
"For those not registered on M-PESA, we request that they activate it by calling Safaricom or visiting a local Safaricom Shop or Center for further assistance.
"For those pending active status, we request that they complete activation by generating the activation code or visiting a local Safaricom Shop or Center for further assistance. For ID Mismatch, we request you check the details of the proxy you gave in the indemnity form," he explained.
