Kenyans have been circulating a letter said to have come from the office of President Uhuru Kenyatta addressed to Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti.
The letter which was dated August 21, claimed that President Kenyatta had ordered investigations into the Covid-19 scandal highlighted by Dennis Okari.
The document also alleged that the head of state had ordered daily updates on the status of the investigations.
However, State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena clarified to Kenyans.co.ke that the letter was fake.
The creators of the document had falsified the Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua's signature.
EACC is currently investigating the scandal while the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency Board suspended its CEO Jonah Manjari.
Manjari, who was to appear before the Senate Health Committee on Thursday claimed he had been taken ill.
Senators demanded that the suspended executive produces documents proving that he had been hospitalised.
The scandal has sent shockwaves across the country due to the sentitivty of the matter, even as Kenya's donors begin to make demands for the country to be accountable.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Global Fund wrote to the government expressing concerns over the alleged corruption.
Health Principal Secretary Susan Mochache expressed hope that the funding would not be stopped after the concerns were addressed.
“We will still be getting help but in a different form. We are doing all we can to reclaim our lost glory,” she said.
