With investigations into the shooting of car dealer Kelvin Omwenga underway, a woman who was captured on CCTV cameras with the deceased, on the night of the murder, has spoken out.
In a police statement, the key witness who was seen walking into the apartment of the businessman at Galana Suites in Kilimani moments before his death stated that she did not know Omwenga well as they were only beginning to get to know each other.
On the night of the shooting, the footage showed the car dealer going to pick her up from the elevator as they engaged in what appeared to be casual conversation.
The suspect in the shooting, Robert Rodo Ouko followed them into the apartment minutes later.
The woman told detectives that Ouko joined them after they arrived and they, together with the victim's brother Wycliffe Omwenga and other men, sat in the living room.
She added that later on, Ouko requested to speak with the businessman privately in the bedroom and that is when the shooting occurred.
“A few minutes later, we heard a loud sound similar to that of a gunshot coming from Omwenga’s bedroom,” the lady told the DCI officers.
Upon his arrest, Ouko confirmed that the shooting did take place albeit accidentally stating that the gun went off while the two were scuffling over the weapon.
He disclosed that he took the gun from his boss businessman Chris Obure's office at Senteu Plaza and Omwenga wanted to show it off to his female companion.
The car dealer's brother Wycliffe Omwenga in a police statement narrated that when he heard a gunshot, they went to the bedroom where he found his kin lying, face down, with blood oozing from his chest. Bodo, on the other hand, was still in the room but in a hurry to leave.
CCTV footage after the shooting showed the men carrying the businessman into the elevator and out of the building into an awaiting car. Wycliff rushed his brother to the Nairobi Women’s Hospital Adams branch as Ouko and the woman were left behind.

Autopsy results released by government Chief Pathologist Johansen Oduor, disclosed that the 28-year-old businessman was shot at close range as he further explained that it was hard to tell whether the tragedy was accidental or a premeditated murder.
Ouko and Obure were presented to court where the judge directed that they be detained for 12 days as detectives complete investigations in the shooting incident.
