Political statements have in the recent past come under scrutiny by a teacher online with his latest casualty being ODM leader Raila Odinga.
The former Prime Minister in his statement addressed the party's stand on the alleged theft of Covid-19 funds.
After numerous requests, Mwalimu Joshua Njenga, who is also a motivational training director dissected the contents of the statement on his page, crossing out what he considered offending writing with a red pen.
With an overall 3 out of a possible 10 marks, the statement scored a "D-" grade with some of the issues noted by the teacher being grammar, sentence structure and repetition.
"Your marks have dropped, see me," he completed his analysis with a statement that would ideally ran chills down the spine of an English student.
From the first sentence, the teacher found fault in the structures pointing out the use of unnecessary words.
He further made suggestions by striking out whole paragraphs statting that they did not commmunicate well.
"I received 974 requests to take it to theatre. The patient now looks lean, strong, and pretty. I removed all tumours and unnecessary fat," he stated signaling that with the corrections it was good to go.
When communicating to the public, press releases should be precise with just a page and at most two pages long.
There a different types of press releases for personalities and companies alike. Generally, a release should have a headline that summarises what the statement is about; a press contact on how the media can get in touch.
A good statement also gives information on where you are, and where your news is happening and in the body order information by level of importance and finally have a boilerplate that gives a brief description of what your organisation is about.
Teacher Njenga has been dissecting a number of press releases with some of the personalities who have been graded including Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru, Public Service CS Margaret Kobia and ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.
