Death Toll Rises to 585 With 212 New Covid-19 Cases

Kenya has recorded 212 more Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours bringing the total number of cases in the country to 34,705.

Speaking during a press briefing on Thursday, September 3, Health CAS Rashid Aman revealed that 3,937 samples had been tested over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of tests done to 463,499.

From today's positive cases, 198 are Kenyans and 14 foreigners. In terms of gender, 132 are male and 80 females. The youngest was identified as a one-month-old infant and the oldest 76 years.

195 patients recovered from the virus and were discharged. 141 were released from the home-based care programme while the rest came from various health facilities. Total recoveries now stand at 20,644.

Sadly 4 patients died during the period, bringing the total fatalities to 585.

The new cases were distributed across the counties as detailed below:

Nairobi 96, Mombasa 21, Busia 10, Kiambu 11, Uasin Gishu 9, Laikipia 9, Taita Taveta 8, Narok 8, Machakos 7, Nakuru 7, Kilifi 6, Lamu 6, Kajiado 4, Bomet 2, with Bungoma, Kericho, Kwale, Migori, Murang'a, Nyeri, West Pokot and Meru all with one case each.

The CAS went on to respond to questions regarding the sudden drop in Covid-19 cases which contradicted initial predictions made by the Ministry of Health which stated that the virus would peak in August-September 2020.

"In the early stages of this pandemic, we did not have a lot of information and data to make accurate predictions. These things are done through models that rely on data. We are currently exercising cautious optimism," he explained.
