Machachari actor Malik Lemmy known to many as Govi on Thursday, September 10, made a passionate appeal to Kenyans, almost a year after Citizen TV ended the show.

In a statement on his social media pages, Malik decried that some of the child stars who braced the show had been struggling financially as well as getting inappropriate comments from certain Kenyans.

"You all loved us when we were at the top, when we were winning awards and entertaining you all on your screens, most of you were eager to see us doing interviews and going for shows but when all that stopped, you started hating on these child stars.

"We grew up knowing that you were the ones to hold us up even at our lowest points but growth showed us criticising, hating, abusing to say the least," he wrote.

The thespian indicated that the actors had not landed any opportunities since their exit from the show, adding that some citizens had high expectations yet most of the actors were out of jobs.

"We all come from different environments, I might be financially stable but that doesn't mean that all of us are stable. Don't expect us to be living in paradise and driving flashy cars yet you know the Kenyan film industry is still at ground zero when it comes to paying actors," Malik lamented.

Additionally, he stated that some of the actors had reached their lowest points in life and pleaded with Kenyans to love and support them.

Malik's sentiments came days after Wanjiru Mburu, known to many as Mama Baha, told Kenyans.co.ke that she went through a period of depression after the show was put on hold.

In a bid to rediscover herself, Mburu embarked on rest and travelling while exploring new hobbies as well.

"I even had to work with a psychiatrist to help me navigate life after the show," she stated.

The Machachari show aired for 11 years with the main cast being Baha, Govi, Stella, Millie, Almasi and Joy.

It was, however, cancelled in October 2019, after pressure mounted over the age of its characters in a show supposed to ideally mimic the lives of teens.
